How to Install an Electric Tankless Water Heater

Step 1: 

Turn off all circuit breakers involved, and the primary water supply should be turned off.

Step 2:

Remove any bolts that hold the unit’s front cover before installing it. Take the front cover. Single or more plugs may need to be removed before you can lay them aside.

Step 3:

The electric tankless water heater should be mounted on the wall.

Step 4:

Now, you can connect the cool and hot water lines. It’s generally more accessible with a stainless steel flex pipe with a 34″ diameter and Teflon tape. However, copper or PEX tubing could be used. Water heaters have a filter screen at the cool water entrance that needs to be cleaned regularly. That’s why the cold water connections must be disconnected quickly. If you really must cut into a pipe, make sure the edges are clean. Remember to cleanse the pipes before attaching them to the heater when soldering, and that too much heat can harm the device.

Note: If the receiving water pressure surpasses a specific threshold, now it is the time to fix a pressure reduction valve just on the cooling side. Unless local or state installation requirements mandate it, a T&P has to be fitted on the hot water side – should not be necessary.

Step 5:

To expel any air from either the pipes or the water heater, open various hot water for a few minutes. In the meantime, inspect all connections for leakage. Close all electrical outlets.

Step 6:

Connect the tankless water heater to the electrical panel on the single side and the electrical panel on the other side. Read the manufacturer’s instructions for the appropriate wire and circuit breaker size and number. Small units, for instance, could be applied to a specific circuit by using a pair of 6/2 AWG wires and a 50A dual pole breaker to safeguard the ground. Larger devices may require different circuits, as well as thicker cables. Reduce every wire set to length and strip it, then pass it through the bottom slots of the heater housing and secure it in the terminal block’s corresponding slots. A ground conductor should be connected to the unit’s grounded busbar and the circuit protection panel for every circuit.

Step 7:

Every electrical connection should be double-checked. Ensure the various wire sets aren’t mixed. Replace the front cover of the machine.

Step 8:
